Getting to know Kyle.

Kyle A. Dunn, civil engineering student and emerging construction professional

I come from little old Stewart Town in Trelawny, Jamaica, it’s a beautiful place but, if you look for it on a map, all you see are trees. But to me, it is more than a dot on a map. It is where I learned what it means to show up, to take care of people, and to keep going even when life does not make the road easy.

A lot of who I am comes from my grandparents. They have both passed away, but the way they lived still follows me. We did not have everything, and like many families back home, there were financial hardships. But somehow, they always made sure I was happy, cared for, and surrounded by love. My grandfather taught me duty without ever needing to give a speech about it. I remember waking up early to follow him to tend to the crops, dragging those big goats out to graze, and making sure the pigs were fed. That was my first understanding of responsibility: not something you say, but something you do every day regardless of what side of the bed you woke up on.

My grandmother gave me a different kind of strength. She taught me to be kind, to care about people, and to carry ambition with compassion. She had a way of making people feel seen and loved. Both of my grandparents were loved in the community because they looked out for others, and that has stayed with me. I think about that often, that being respected is not only about what you accomplish, but about how people feel when they cross your path.

My mother is the constant driver behind the road I am on now. She has worked hard her entire life and sacrificed opportunities of her own to help push me forward. No matter what she has faced, she keeps looking ahead, keeps aspiring, and keeps reminding me to stay true to the path I am building. My brother, my cousins, my aunts and uncles are a big part of that foundation too, a reminder that what I do is not only for myself but for those who have been there along the way.

Engineering, for me, is not just about calculations, drawings, or job titles. It is about building things that last, understanding the details that hold them together, and becoming someone who can be trusted with responsibility. I want to be a well-rounded engineer, but more than that, I want to be a well-rounded person.

I grew up playing outside, riding my bike, playing football and cricket with friends. Going to the river and the beach, picking fruit straight from the trees: mangoes, starfruit, coconuts, apples, and whatever else was in season. As life gets busier with school, work, internships, and trying to grow into the future I imagine, I still want to stay connected to that part of myself. I want to read more deeply when I finally have the time, learn guitar, travel the world, and leave something meaningful with the people I meet and the places I go.

KAD Consulting is part of that bigger vision. It is not just a name or a website. It is a record of the person I am becoming. Someone shaped by family, struggle, nature, discipline, construction, engineering, and the belief that every strong future starts with a solid foundation.
